Brady is being honored nationwid for her role in earning greater recognition of the San Antonio Public Library ona decision-makinh level within the city. This has resulted in a consolidatee initiative to create a sustainable fundiny base for thelibraryg system. The city proposed designating a portion of the sales tax forlibrary funding. “Sinces her election to the Chair of the Board of Trusteesz of the San Antonio Public Jean has dedicated her time and energy to raisingvthe library’s profile with community decision-makers,” San Antoniok Public Library Director Ramiro Salazar says.
“More than just an advocate, she has demonstraterd leadership throughout her termof office, developing and implementing strategies to effectivelyt present the library’s case to both government and the communithy at large.” As board chair, Brady formed a Library Advocacy Committee that lobbiedx City Council and directed outreach She also created a speakers’ bureauu to make presentations about the library to civic organizations and communityt groups.
She also pivotal in finding platforms that communicated thelibrarg system’s role in quality of life “Jean’s community leadership skills made the San Antoniol Public Library not only relevant, but also critical to the livews of San Antonians,” says Eva director of libraries for the Denton Public Libraryh and chair of the 2009 Urban Player Award Selection Committee. Brady will also receives a checkfor $1,000. The Urbanj Libraries Council, based in Chicago, is a membership organizationn of publiclibrary systems.
