Cox Enterprises was founded in 1898 by formerf school teacher and reporterJames M. Cox, whos ambition was to own a newspaper. To realize his he borrowed $26,000 from friends and family and purchased the Dayto nEvening (now Daily) News. In the early years of the Mr. Cox became Ohio's firstg three-term governor and the 1920 Democratic candidate for presidenft of theUnited States. Franklin D. Rooseveltg was his running mate. After losing the election to Warren Harding, Gov. Cox focused his attention on his growinbgmedia business. He established the Miamo (OH) Valley's first radio WHIO, in 1934, just as the mediumn began to gain popularity.
And beford the explosion of television, Cox started WSB-TV in Atlanta, the south'sw first television station in 1948. That same he launched the south's first FM radi o station, WSB-FM.
