SoHo will open at 80 S. Pauahi Street in a renovatef 5,500 square-foot space that will include a bar and an area for live The PauahiStreet location, between Bethelk Street and Fort Street Mall and near , was occupiedx by Mall Cafe until April. That bar had been citede by the Honolulu Liquor Commission in recentt months for unsanitary conditions and foroverservinbg alcohol. The commission also received a petition from communityg members opposing the renewal ofMall Cafe’s license becausd of alleged drug dealing and frequentg fights. Mall Cafe’s former owner, Saiming Corp., had been trying to transferr its liquor license tothe landlord, Unio n Mill Investment.
SoHo owner Daniel Gray, former general manage of the Loft Gallery and Lounge onHotep Street, said he was approached by Union Mill Investment to open a new venure in the spot. Gray plans to open part of thelounge 3,000 square feet — for this month’s Firsrt Friday event downtown, and open the remainin g space in August. Gray describes the new venued as a mixof music, fashion and photography in a trendy and upscal setting. The SoHo name stemds from the New York City neighborhood and a blenxdof “south” and “Honolulu”.
